Shortly after I was born in Stevens Point, my family moved to La Crosse, and then to Madison, by the time I was 3. Living on Vera Court on Madison's North Side, both of my parents continued the work they had been doing my entire life, direct care for residents with disabilities, at Central Wisconsin Center. My parents often took opposite shifts to save on childcare expenses, and they worked a lot of overtime just to make ends meet.
When I was in the second grade we moved to Waunakee. My parents became homeowners for the first time when I was 12. Watching my parents work so hard inspired me to begin working as soon as I could. My first job was at a family-owned video store which gave me a self-sufficiency I deeply desired. My parents’ work ethic and dedication to providing personal care for others influenced my approach to work and leadership that helped establish my values and set goals for how I will approach my service on the Dane County Board.
